Anna King Sues Idaho National Guard Over Violent Detention

Retired U.S. Army captain Anna King, a veteran of the Iraq war who earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, says she was forcibly detained on May 8 outside her Washington, D.C., home. Three members of the Idaho National Guard entered her front gate, confronted her, pushed her to the ground and zip‑tied her hands behind her back. The encounter was captured on a Ring security camera, and King can be heard demanding the guards “Get away from me right now” and asserting they had no authority to detain her.

King’s attorneys, from the law firm Levy Firestone Muse and the ACLU of the District of Columbia, filed a federal tort claim on July 29 seeking $3 million in damages. The suit alleges lasting injuries, including a wrist injury that required surgery and post‑traumatic symptoms. The Guard maintains King was suspected of assaulting another Guard member two days earlier, a claim her lawyers call baseless. King has also been a vocal critic of the Guard’s deployment in the city.
