Anna Ntountounaki sets Greek national record in 100m butterfly
Greek swimmer Anna Ntountounaki set a new national record in the 100m butterfly during the European Athletics Championships in Paris. She clocked a time of 56.99 seconds in the semifinals, breaking the previous record of 57.25 seconds which had stood since the Tokyo Olympics.
Ntountounaki secured her place in the final, finishing third in the heat. She achieved this alongside fellow Greek swimmer Georgia Damasioti, ensuring a double Greek presence in the final.
Following the race, Ntountounaki expressed deep emotion, noting that she had been working toward this specific performance since 2021. She explained that her strategy involved pushing harder during the first 50 meters, a tactical risk she had trained specifically to sustain through the second half of the race.
