Anna Todd presents Mallorca-set novel at FLEM

Author Anna Todd presented her new novel, ‘Sunrise. El último amanecer’, at the Expanded Literature Festival of Magaluf (FLEM). The story is set in Mallorca and explores themes of love and the socio-economic consequences of mass tourism.

Todd, known for the ‘After’ saga, noted that she developed the story through online research and consultation with local sources to ensure an authentic portrayal of the island. The plot follows a young American woman who travels to Mallorca and falls in love with a local fisherman whose family business is threatened by real estate speculation.

In addition to the novel, Todd has produced a film adaptation for Amazon, which was filmed on the island. During her presentation, she reflected on the tension between the island's popularity and the issues caused by tourism saturation, stating that while she feels a deep connection to the location, she recognizes that her desire to move there is part of the very problem her book addresses.
