Annalena Baerbock faces protests during lecture in Sweden

Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was met with intense protests from pro-Palestinian activists during the Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture at Uppsala University in Sweden. The event, centered on the theme of multilateralism and leadership in a fragmented world, was repeatedly interrupted by demonstrators.

Protesters accused Baerbock of complicity in the conflict in Gaza, specifically alleging that she justified the bombardment of hospitals and schools and continued financial support to Israel despite rulings from the International Court of Justice. One activist shouted, “How can you dare? Whose democracy are you defending? For whose freedom do you actually stand – only for that of the Israelis?”

Baerbock initially suggested that criticisms could be addressed during a subsequent Q&A session. However, as the interruptions continued, she responded by stating, “Now I am speaking!” The planned discussion with students was ultimately unable to proceed due to the disruptions.
