Annapolis Library to unveil Malcolm X monument
The Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library will soon host a permanent monument honoring civil rights leader Malcolm X. The installation aims to recognize his contributions to the fight for civil rights and highlight the central role that education and reading played in his life.
The monument will include historical photographs, biographical information, and quotes reflecting his commitment to the power of knowledge to inspire social change. This project marks a milestone for the Anne Arundel County Public Library system, as it is among the first permanent public art installations at one of its locations.
Funding for the project was provided by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, the Caucus of African American Leaders, Anne Arundel County, and local community donors. An unveiling ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, at 11 a.m. on the library campus.
