Anne Arundel County launches relief program for opioid overdose survivors
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has launched the Supporting Overdose Loss Survivors (SOLS) program to assist families impacted by opioid overdoses. Funded by the Opioid Restitution Fund, the initiative provides direct financial relief and educational resources to children and young adults who have lost a parent or guardian to an overdose within the last two years.
Eligible families can receive a one-time base payment of $2,500, with an additional $2,500 provided per eligible child. These funds are intended for essential needs such as furniture, clothing, school supplies, and mental health counseling. Additionally, the program offers post-secondary scholarships of up to $10,000 for eligible young adults attending Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) to cover tuition and materials.
The program also includes a resource hub to help families navigate crisis intervention, food assistance, housing, and grief counseling. Applications can be submitted via a secure online form or by telephone, with a dedicated administrator reviewing requests within three business days.
