Anne Carson awarded Nobel Prize in Literature
Canadian poet and essayist Anne Carson has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature by the Swedish Academy. Carson is recognized for her unique body of work that blurs the boundaries between poetry, prose, essay, translation, and rewriting.
Her literary connection to Italy is highlighted by the work of Patrizio Ceccagnoli, an Umbrian scholar and professor at the University of Kansas, who serves as a primary Italian translator of her work. Ceccagnoli’s translations have brought Carson’s essays and poetry to Italian readers, including works that reference the historical and artistic heritage of Perugia, such as the figure of the painter Perugino.
Additionally, Carson’s influence extends to contemporary music; she recently authored a review of the singer Rosalía for the London Review of Books following the artist's performance at the LUX Tour in Chicago.
