Anne Hathaway to campaign for Oscar in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Universal Pictures has announced it will campaign Anne Hathaway in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Penelope in Christopher Nolan’s epic film, ‘The Odyssey’. This decision clarifies the studio’s awards strategy, positioning Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, as the film’s primary contender for Best Actor.

Hathaway’s campaign will run alongside co-star Samantha Morton, who portrays Circe. While this creates the possibility of two supporting actress nominations from the same film, it also means the two actresses may compete against one another. Hathaway, who previously won a Supporting Actress Oscar for ‘Les Misérables’, could become only the third woman in history to win in this category twice.

‘The Odyssey’ has been a significant commercial success, grossing between $1.6 billion and $1.7 billion worldwide. The film is expected to be a major player in the upcoming awards season, with potential nominations in categories including Best Picture and Best Director.
