Anne Hathaway's 2018 LGBTQ+ speech attacked by Elon Musk, Adam Carolla

Elon Musk revived criticism of Anne Hathaway’s 2018 Human Rights Campaign speech, calling her a “marionette” and claiming the remarks were scripted and lacked independent thought. Musk posted the comments on X in response to a professor’s critique of Hathaway’s remarks about privilege and the myth of white, straight male dominance.

Conservative commentator Adam Carolla also condemned the speech on his podcast, arguing Hathaway “doesn’t know what she’s talking about” and mocking her reference to being a cisgender male. Both critics resurfaced their attacks as Hathaway stars in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film “The Odyssey,” which has become a box‑office hit. Hathaway has not publicly responded to either Musk’s or Carolla’s remarks.
