Anne Hiltpold defends Geneva's new high school maturity reform
Geneva State Councilor Anne Hiltpold has addressed concerns regarding the new gymnasial maturity reform, which is set to be implemented for the first cohort in the upcoming school year. Hiltpold defended the changes, describing the transition as more than a minor adjustment, following a period of tension with educators.
On September 22, the Secondary II staff assembly of the Collège de Genève voted unanimously for a moratorium to delay the reform by at least one year. Teachers have raised several objections, including a new timetable that they claim creates gaps in history and geography curricula. Additionally, critics argue the reform reduces specific elective teaching hours, increases total course hours, and follows an overly constrained timeline with insufficient consultation with teaching staff.
