Anne Juuko appointed Director General of East African Development Bank
The East African Development Bank (EADB) has appointed veteran banker Anne Juuko as its new Director General, effective October 2, 2026. The appointment, approved by the EADB Governing Council in Kampala, ends an interim leadership period following the retirement of Vivienne Yeda in December 2024.
Juuko brings over 20 years of experience in banking and financial markets across East and Southern Africa. She most recently served as the Regional Head of Global Markets for Eastern Africa at Standard Bank Group. Her previous roles include serving as Managing Director and CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, where she led the institution through the COVID-19 pandemic and oversaw significant profit growth.
The leadership transition occurs as the EADB reports strong financial performance, including a 51% increase in profit before tax in 2025 and a 140% rise in loan disbursements. The bank maintains investment-grade credit ratings from both S&P Global and Moody’s. Under Juuko’s leadership, the EADB aims to implement reforms to improve performance, expand its development finance role, and mobilize long-term capital for its member states.
