Anne-Marie Duff reflects on ‘Bad Sisters’ role and personal grief

Actress Anne-Marie Duff has shared reflections on her role in the Irish black comedy series ‘Bad Sisters’. Speaking to Good Housekeeping, Duff noted that she did not have ‘as much fun’ as her co-stars because her character, Grace Williams, was a ‘sort of ghost of a woman’ designed to evoke sympathy for her situation involving an abusive husband.

Despite the emotional weight of the role, which earned her a 2023 TV BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress, Duff praised the series for portraying ‘Celtic women not just trapped in the kitchen in sufferance’. She also commended the writing of Sharon Horgan and the performances of her fellow cast members.

Duff also discussed her recent personal life, noting that she took an 18-month hiatus from acting to support her family following the deaths of her mother and her brother, Eddie.
