Anneke van Giersbergen rules out new music with The Gathering
Anneke van Giersbergen has clarified that there are currently no discussions regarding the creation of new music with her former band, The Gathering. While the group is performing reunion shows to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their album ‘Mandylion’, the collaboration is focused on celebrating their legacy rather than long-term future plans.
In an interview with Hakos Pervanidis for the TV War program, van Giersbergen noted that the decision to reunite was driven by friendship and a desire to celebrate the album’s milestone. She explained that the idea originated from casual conversations with guitarist René Rutten, rather than pressure from management or industry moguls. She expressed surprise at the enduring impact of ‘Mandylion’ three decades later, describing the experience of performing the songs together as feeling like ‘brothers and sisters’ on stage.
