Nuevo Laredo names science museum after scientist Annie Pardo Cemo

The city council of Nuevo Laredo has approved naming the new Science, Technology, and Planetarium Museum after Mexican scientist Annie Pardo Cemo. The decision recognizes her more than five decades of contributions to research, teaching, and scientific training.

Dr. Pardo Cemo, an alumna of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), specialized in the cellular and molecular mechanisms of fibrosing lung diseases, specifically idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She was a pioneer in Mexico regarding the study of matrix metalloproteinases in these diseases and founded a biochemistry research laboratory at UNAM in 1980.

Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal stated that the scientist's legacy embodies the values of curiosity, knowledge, and innovation that the museum aims to promote. The facility is intended to be an interactive space designed to bring science and technology closer to families and inspire younger generations.
