Annika Kärsten-Hoenig reflects on marriage to Heinz Hoenig amid health struggles

Annika Kärsten-Hoenig has reflected on her decision to marry actor Heinz Hoenig, noting that despite her previous fears of commitment and potential loss, the decision remains one of the most important of her life.

Since 2024, the couple has faced significant challenges due to Heinz Hoenig's severe illness. The actor has undergone major medical procedures, including the removal of his esophagus, and has required artificial nutrition since May 2024. Annika has taken on much of his care and has spoken publicly about how the illness has transformed their family life.

The family also faced financial strain because Heinz Hoenig was temporarily insufficiently insured, leading to high out-of-pocket medical costs that exhausted their savings. To help alleviate this pressure, Annika participated in the Sat.1 television show ‘Villa der Versuchung’ in hopes of winning prize money.
