Annita Demetriou to address Limassol Economic Forum on European leadership

Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, is scheduled to address the 17th Limassol Economic Forum on October 23, 2026. Her speech, titled “Europe in an Age of Uncertainty: Leadership, Democracy and Strategic Responsibility,” will address the challenges facing European democracies, including political polarization, disinformation, and the need for the European Union to strengthen security and reduce strategic dependencies while maintaining the rule of law and democratic accountability.

In a related academic exploration of global instability, the University of Maastricht’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is hosting a lecture series titled “The Perfect Storm: Perspectives on a World in Flux.” The program examines the concept of “polycrisis”—the interaction of multiple crises such as climate change, energy insecurity, and geopolitical tensions. The series includes lectures on the environmental impact of artificial intelligence, the role of energy in geopolitical tensions, and how the war in Ukraine is redefining European security.
