Ano Meria to host beach cleanup in protected area

The Ano Meria Cooperative and the Organization for the Natural Environment and Climate Change (OFYPEKA) have announced a beach cleanup initiative scheduled for Saturday, October 3. The event aims to address pollution on the western beaches of the Ano Meria protected area, specifically targeting Marmari, Megas Lakkos, Lia, and Amerikanou.

Despite the geographic isolation of these beaches helping to preserve biodiversity, organizers noted that they remain vulnerable to pollution left behind by visitors. Participants can access the sites via hiking trails from Kampo or by boat from Kini, weather permitting. The local Syros-Hermoupolis Municipality Cleanliness Department will assist in the waste collection and removal process.
