Czech Republic municipal and Senate elections yield mixed results for major parties

The 2026 municipal and Senate elections in the Czech Republic have concluded, revealing a complex political landscape. In Prague, the STAN movement emerged as the winner with approximately 23 percent of the vote, leading discussions for potential coalitions with Spolu, Piráti, and Praha sobě. ANO maintained strong positions in several regional cities, including Olomouc and Přerov, though it saw losses in other areas like Prostějov, where the Na rovinu! movement secured a victory.

In the Senate elections, several candidates secured their seats in the first round, including Jan Sobotka in the Trutnov district and Jan Grolich in the Vyškov district. Other districts, such as Cheb and České Lípa, will proceed to a second round of voting.

Nationwide, the results show a significant presence of independent local movements, which traditionally secure a large number of mandates. While ANO remains a dominant force in many municipalities, the fragmentation of the political scene is forcing various parties into complex coalition negotiations to form local governments.
