Penteli forest fire: Three 13-year-olds identified after social media challenge
Authorities in Greece have identified and located three 13-year-olds who allegedly started a fire in a pine forest near Penteli, specifically in the Ano Vryssinia forest area. The incident occurred on a day with a high risk of wildfires and was captured on video by a passing driver. The footage, which was subsequently broadcast by ANT1, shows the minors lighting a fire in a pine-covered area and then attempting to contain the flames.
The incident was part of a social media “challenge.” Following a report to the 112 emergency line, the Fire Service and the Fire Arson Crimes Directorate (DAEE) conducted an investigation that led to the identification of the children and their parents.
The three minors have reportedly apologized for their actions. Their parents stated they were completely unaware of the social media challenge. Legal proceedings are being initiated against the minors for attempted arson, while the parents are also facing charges for the offense of negligent supervision of a minor.
