Anogeia teachers protest school operations amid severe weather

Teachers in the Municipality of Anogeia, Crete, are protesting the decision to keep schools operational following severe weather conditions. The Rethymno Primary Education Teachers Association and ELME Rethymno have criticized the local administration for exposing educators and students to unnecessary risks.

While the neighboring Municipality of Mylopotamos was declared to be in a state of emergency due to flooding, landslides, and significant damage to the road network in areas such as Zonia, Livadia, and Axos, schools in Anogeia remained open. Teachers reported that the decision forced them to navigate roads turned into rivers and face potential landslide hazards.

The teachers' association is demanding clear explanations from the Mayor of Anogeia regarding the criteria used for this decision and is calling for immediate safety measures to ensure secure travel for all staff and students.
