Codau proposes administrative reforms for Italian universities

Vincenzo Tedesco, president of Codau and Director General of the Polytechnic University of Turin, has called for concrete proposals to simplify the complex management of Italian universities. Speaking at a meeting hosted by the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, Tedesco emphasized that the association aims to move beyond mere requests for increased financial resources to provide technical and managerial expertise for operational improvements.

The association is engaging in discussions with the Conference of Italian University Rectors (Crui) ahead of the upcoming budget law. Key issues include university funding needs, spending constraints, and the sustainability of investments following the PNRR. Tedesco specifically highlighted the structural rigidity of the Ordinary Financing Fund (Ffo), noting that late definitions of base quotas and tied portions hinder effective planning.

A national conference titled ‘Beyond the PNRR: Continuity and Competitiveness for the Italian University’ is scheduled to take place at the University of Calabria from November 15 to 17 to address these systemic challenges.
