Anrich Nortje targets Test cricket return for South Africa

South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje is targeting a return to Test cricket for the upcoming three-match series against Australia. Having not played a Test match since March 2023, Nortje has spent much of the last three years focusing on T20 cricket following severe back injuries, including stress fractures.

Nortje has been included in South Africa’s preliminary squad for the home series. To prepare for the rigors of five-day cricket, he has been working with Piet Botha and utilizing self-recorded video analysis to improve his body alignment and build a more sustainable bowling action.

Nortje expressed excitement about potentially earning his Test cap again, noting the progress the team has made under head coach Shukri Conrad. His selection for the final squad will likely depend on his performance in upcoming practice matches, especially as other pacers like Kagiso Rabada face injury concerns.
