Anriquelis Barrios wins bronze at Judo Grand Prix in Lima

Venezuelan judoka Anriquelis Barrios won a bronze medal in the -63 kg category at the Judo Grand Prix in Lima, Peru. The competition featured 296 athletes from 50 different nations.

Barrios secured her podium finish after a series of challenging matches. Following a bye in the first round, she defeated Romania’s Amanda Zuaznabar-Torres in the round of 16 by scoring a yuko. In the quarterfinals, she faced Brazil’s Rafaela Silva, the world number three, but lost due to an accumulation of penalties (hansoku make).

Competing in the repechage for the bronze medal, Barrios faced Canada’s Catherine Toshkov. Despite receiving a shido penalty for avoiding a grip, Barrios maintained her early lead to secure the victory and the bronze medal.
