ANS removes age restrictions for digital mammography coverage

The National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) has updated regulations regarding digital mammography coverage for health insurance users in Brazil. Starting October 1st, coverage for digital mammography will no longer be subject to age restrictions.

Previously, mandatory coverage was limited to women between the ages of 40 and 69. Under the new guidelines, the decision to perform the exam will be based on clinical evaluation and medical indication, ensuring access for screening, diagnosis, and treatment monitoring regardless of age.

The Procon of João Pessoa issued an alert regarding these changes, noting that the expansion of coverage aligns with 'Pink October,' a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness and early diagnosis.
