ANSA reports 21% increase in supermarket sales
The National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Services (ANSA) reported a 21% increase in supermarket channel consumption between January and July compared to the previous year. Ítalo Atencio, president of ANSA, noted that the sector has seen continuous expansion, with 56 new stores opened across the country.
Approximately 72% of these new openings are concentrated in the states of Miranda, Distrito Capital, Aragua, Carabobo, and Zulia. Additionally, several supermarket chains are collaborating with banking entities to launch proprietary credit cards for customer use.
In La Guaira, a recent census of establishments following earthquakes on June 24 revealed that 34% of businesses are operational, 35% are undergoing structural repairs, and 34% are unable to reopen in the short term. Regarding food consumption, the report noted that annual per capita chicken consumption is around 32 kilograms, while egg consumption is also showing growth in the national market.
