Ansaldo Green Tech completes AEM electrolyzer production line
Ansaldo Green Tech has completed a new high-volume production line for anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer stacks at its facility in Genoa, Italy. The new line has a production capacity exceeding 300 MW per year.
Developed under the ‘Turnkey Electrochemical Plants for H2 Production’ project, the initiative is supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the European IPCEI Hydrogen program. The broader project benefits from over $300 million in public funding aimed at the industrial production of AEM electrolyzers.
The company’s AEM electrolyzers are designed to work with renewable energy sources, adapting to power fluctuations to produce pressurized hydrogen. The modular technology ranges from 1-MW containerized units producing approximately 500 kg of hydrogen daily to multi-MW systems for large-scale industrial use. Testing and optimization are expected to continue in the coming months before full industrial production begins.
