Ansan boy uses fake food order to report domestic violence

A 9-year-old boy in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, used a clever tactic to alert authorities to domestic violence occurring in his home. During an emergency call to the Ansan Sangnok Police Station, the boy pretended to order a bowl of jjajangmyeon noodles to hide the fact that he was contacting the police from his father.

Police operators recognized the unusual nature of the request and maintained a calm dialogue to confirm the situation. The boy eventually whispered that his father was attempting to hit his mother. Officers arrived at the residence approximately three minutes after the call was received.

A man in his 40s was taken into custody following the incident. Investigators report that the father had used a fan to strike the mother and engaged in physical and verbal altercations. Because the incident occurred in front of the boy and his 5-year-old sibling, police are also investigating charges of emotional abuse under the Child Welfare Act.

The suspect has been issued a restraining order requiring him to stay at least 100 meters away from his wife and children and has been temporarily removed from the residence.
