Ansan City gains legal right to join Ansan Line undergrounding project
Ansan City has secured a legal basis to participate as a joint project implementer for the Ansan Line undergrounding and integrated development project. This follows the National Assembly's passage of an amendment to the ‘Special Act on Railway Undergrounding and Integrated Development of Railway Sites.’
The amendment expands the scope of project implementers beyond government-invested enterprises to include the Korea National Railway, local governments, public institutions, and local corporations. This change is significant for Ansan, as approximately 66% of the 710,000 square meter project area consists of land owned by the city.
By participating directly, the city aims to link its owned land with railway sites to fund the undergrounding project and develop public amenities. The project, which was selected as a pilot project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, currently focuses on a 5.12 km section between Choji Station and Jungang Station. The city plans to transform the reclaimed surface space into a multi-functional zone featuring residential, educational, commercial, medical, and cultural facilities, alongside green spaces and pedestrian walkways.
