Ansan woman arrested for killing mother during Chuseok holiday

A Chinese national in her 50s has been arrested for the murder of her mother in Ansan, South Korea, during the Chuseok holiday period.

According to the Ansan Sangnok Police Station, the suspect allegedly attacked her mother, a woman in her 70s, with a weapon at a multi-family housing unit in Sangnok-gu around 1:00 AM on September 26. The victim was transported to a hospital where she later died despite receiving CPR.

The suspect, who lived with her mother, reportedly confessed to the police that the incident occurred following an argument regarding lifestyle habits. Investigations suggest the suspect had consumed approximately one bottle of soju before the altercation. Following the crime, the suspect informed an acquaintance of the act, which led to a police report and her subsequent arrest at the scene. The Suwon District Court Ansan Branch issued an arrest warrant, citing a risk of flight.
