Anseong City to vaccinate 95,000 livestock against new foot-and-mouth disease

Anseong City is launching a mass vaccination campaign for approximately 95,000 livestock, including cattle and goats, to prevent the introduction of a new strain of foot-and-mouth disease (SAT 1). The vaccination drive is scheduled to run from September 1 to September 14.

To combat the potential influx of the disease from neighboring countries like China and Mongolia, authorities will administer both the existing O+A type bivalent vaccine and the new SAT 1 type vaccine. Small-scale farms with 62 or fewer animals will receive support from vaccination teams consisting of public veterinarians and goat capture units. Larger commercial farms are expected to perform self-vaccination.

The SAT 1 vaccination requires a second dose four weeks after the initial shot, with a completion deadline of October 31. Following this date, only cattle that have completed both doses of the SAT 1 vaccine will be permitted for trade.
