Argentina updates minimum wage and social benefits for October 2026

Argentina has implemented a new minimum wage (SMVM) of $391,200 for full-time workers effective October 1, 2026. The government established a staggered increase schedule through April 2027, with hourly rates set at $1,956 for October. This measure follows a lack of agreement between unions and employers.

Social security benefits through ANSES are also undergoing adjustments. Projections suggest the minimum pension could rise to approximately $444,027 in November, depending on official inflation data from Indec. The Universal Child Allowance (AUH) is also expected to increase to $159,564 in November.

In addition to economic updates, the IPS and IOMA have issued warnings regarding a new fraud scheme targeting retirees in Buenos Aires province. Scammers are impersonating officials to offer fake prizes to obtain personal and banking information. Meanwhile, in Puerta de San José, municipal workers reached a salary agreement for a $150,000 increase paid in three installments.
