Argentina universities announce 23-day strike after failed salary talks

Argentine university unions and rectors have escalated their conflict with the national government following the failure of salary negotiations. The Ministry of Human Capital proposed a 3% increase for September and October, a move unanimously rejected by unions such as ADUBA, APUBA, CONADU, FEDUN, and UDA. Unions are demanding a 32.5% salary recomposition to address lost purchasing power.

In response, the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has announced a 23-day staggered strike involving various faculties and institutes, scheduled to run from September 21 to October 22. Additionally, the Consejo Interuniversitario Nacional (CIN) is preparing a 2027 budget proposal requesting 11 trillion pesos to sustain the university system, noting that the government's current allocation of 7.3 trillion pesos is insufficient.

A fifth Federal University March has been called for October 15, with a planned route targeting the Palacio de Tribunales to bring the dispute into the judicial sphere.
