Anson & Madison Water District issues fluoride warning

The Anson & Madison Water District issued a ‘Do Not Drink’ order for the towns of Anson, North Anson, Madison, and Embden after detecting unsafe levels of fluoride in the water supply.

While the order was lifted for Madison on Saturday morning, it remains in effect for Anson, North Anson, and Embden. Residents in the affected areas are advised to use bottled water for drinking, making ice, preparing food, and brushing teeth.

The Anson Local Emergency Management Agency is distributing bottled water at the Anson Town Office and the Anson Fire Department’s North and South stations. The water district is currently working with the State of Maine Drinking Water Program to determine the cause of the fluoride over-feed while crews flush and test the affected areas.
