ANSR launches road safety campaign for back-to-school season
The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) has launched the ‘Back to School’ campaign to warn drivers about increased risks near schools. Under the slogan ‘No excuses are enough’, the initiative emphasizes the critical role of speed in pedestrian accidents.
Data presented by the authority indicates that the probability of a pedestrian's death is 10% when hit at 30 km/h, but rises to 90% at 50 km/h. Pedro Clemente, President of ANSR, stated that drivers have increased responsibility during this period due to the higher presence of children, families, and school transport. The campaign urges motorists to reduce speed, anticipate unexpected movements, respect signage, and avoid distractions to prevent irreversible accidents.
