ANSVSA withdraws 15 tons of vegetables in Romania due to origin fraud

The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has withdrawn over 15,000 kilograms of non-compliant vegetables from the commercial market following inspections of four logistics companies in Ilfov County, Romania.

Inspectors discovered significant irregularities, most notably a batch of red Kapia peppers labeled as being of Romanian origin when they actually originated from Uzbekistan. Other seized products included tomatoes, plum tomatoes, bell peppers, gherkin cucumbers, and white cabbage. Additionally, several stocks lacked the necessary identification elements required to ensure product traceability.

As a result of these findings, authorities imposed fines totaling 24,000 lei and prohibited one company, which operated a cold storage warehouse and a packaging unit, from continuing its activities. The non-compliant products have been directed for destruction or confiscation, and inspectors have collected samples for laboratory analysis to check for pesticide residues.
