Anta Sports becomes largest shareholder in Puma after 1.5 billion euro stake purchase

Anta Sports has completed the acquisition of a 29.06% stake in the German sportswear brand Puma SE, making the Chinese company its largest shareholder. The transaction, valued at approximately 1.5 billion euros (roughly $1.7 billion) in cash, involved purchasing the shares from Artémis SAS, the investment firm controlled by the Pinault family.

Anta Sports intends to act as a long-term strategic partner, offering expertise in retail operations, brand management, and global resource integration to support Puma’s ongoing strategic transformation. While Anta plans to seek appropriate representation on Puma’s supervisory board, the company stated it has no current intention of launching a full takeover bid.

Puma will continue to operate as an independently managed company, maintaining its brand identity and corporate culture. The investment comes as Puma undergoes a multi-year turnaround effort following recent financial challenges, including reported losses in 2025.
