ANTAC announces mobilizations against illegal highway checkpoints in Mexico

The National Association of Carriers (ANTAC) has announced new mobilizations to demand the removal of illegal checkpoints on federal highways in Mexico. David Estévez Gamboa, the national president of ANTAC, reported a 100 percent increase in extortion incidents linked to these checkpoints, which he claims are used by criminals to intimidate and extort transporters and motorists.

Estévez Gamboa stated that these unauthorized stops often involve individuals impersonating federal, state, or municipal authorities. Critical locations identified include San Roberto in Nuevo León, San Blas in Nayarit, San Luis Río Colorado in Sonora, Matehuala in San Luis Potosí, and areas in Tabasco and Sinaloa. He emphasized that only the National Guard is authorized to conduct operations on federal roads.

ANTAC clarified that they are not opposed to police presence, but insist that operations must remain within legal frameworks. The association plans to begin direct actions next week, starting with a commission traveling to San Roberto to demand the removal of illegal elements.
