Antakya hosts Gastro Antakya Culture and Gastronomy Festival

The Gastro Antakya Culture and Gastronomy Festival has commenced in Hatay, Turkey, aimed at promoting the city's rich culinary heritage and culture. The event began with a parade and folk dance performances at the 15 Temmuz Milli İrade Parkı.

Local officials noted the significance of the festival in the wake of the February 6, 2023, earthquakes. Antakya District Governor Abdullah Akdaş remarked that such events are vital as the city works to recover from the disaster, while Antakya Mayor İbrahim Naci Yapar emphasized that the festival serves as a source of morale for citizens and represents the continuation of a deep-rooted civilization.

The festival features various activities, including chef demonstrations, workshops such as making kömbe and aşur, traditional künefe shows, and displays of geographically indicated local products. The event is scheduled to run until October 25.
