Malatya Culture Road Festival highlights ancient culinary heritage
The Malatya Culture Road Festival has brought together prominent chefs to highlight the city’s ancient culinary heritage. Under the ‘Lezzet Noktası’ project organized by the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), experts identified 31 specific culinary destinations to promote local businesses and regional flavors.
Chefs emphasized Malatya’s deep-rooted traditions, noting a continuity between the 6,000-year-old oven culture found at Arslantepe Mound and modern cooking practices. Key regional specialties highlighted include Yeşilyurt cherry leaf wraps, kağıt kebab, geleli kebab, and Arapgir dolması. The city’s cuisine is also noted for its diversity in bulgur-based dishes, with 86 varieties available, many of which are suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets.
The festival aims to boost the local economy and support women's employment, showcasing everything from family-run restaurants to small-scale home kitchen enterprises.
