Antakya reconstruction requires holistic urban planning

In Antakya, local official Mehmet Tanrıcı has emphasized that the reconstruction efforts following recent earthquakes must go beyond merely building housing. He argued that for a community to be truly functional, new residential areas must be planned holistically to include essential infrastructure and social services.

Tanrıcı stated that the completion of housing projects is vital for the city's recovery, but noted that reconstruction is not finished if residents lack access to schools, healthcare, transportation, and commercial areas. He called for urban planning that prioritizes human needs, integrating schools, health centers, public transport, parks, and local businesses into the initial design of new neighborhoods rather than attempting to solve these issues after construction is complete.
