Antalya coasts host some of the world's oldest shipwrecks

Underwater history researcher Mustafa Aydemir has identified the coasts of Antalya as one of the world's richest underwater historical sites. The region contains some of the oldest shipwrecks known to archaeology, including the Gelidonya shipwreck, dated to 1200 BC, and the Uluburun shipwreck found in Kaş, dated to 1300 BC.

Aydemir noted that the area's maritime history extends beyond the ancient period, encompassing Roman era wrecks as well as numerous vessels from World War I and World War II. He describes these shipwrecks as 'treasure-valued time capsules' that preserve vital information about the past.

His research and findings regarding these sites have been compiled in his book, ‘10 Batık 10 Hikaye’ (10 Shipwrecks 10 Stories), which focuses on the historical narratives behind each wreck.
