Antalya courts impose life sentences in two women's murder cases

In Antalya, Turkey, a court sentenced Syrian citizen Aref Elhussein to aggravated life imprisonment and an additional seven years for theft after he was found guilty of murdering 45‑year‑old Nida Nazlıer. Evidence included surveillance footage, a broken mirror, and a bag containing the victim’s jewelry and the suspect’s documents. The court rejected any mitigating circumstances and ordered no sentence reduction.

In a separate case, the Antalya 1st Heavy Penal Court heard the first hearing of the murder of 24‑year‑old Helin Nama. Her husband, Ismail K., who was arrested and charged with intentional homicide and illegal possession of firearms, claimed the killing was a suicide. Witnesses and the victim’s family disputed his account, and the court proceeded with the prosecution’s charges.
