Antalya deploys 50 artificial reefs to revive Mediterranean marine life

Fifty artificial reefs manufactured under the Antalya Blue Mediterranean Initiative were placed in the waters off Finike district to protect marine life, provide breeding and shelter for fish, and help restore the Mediterranean ecosystem. Governor Hulusi Şahin highlighted that the project supports sustainable tourism, fisheries and environmental recovery ahead of Antalya’s hosting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in November.

The deployment coincided with broader coastal clean‑up actions, including new waste‑collection facilities at the Free Zone, cleaning of marinas and fishing shelters, and the installation of barriers to trap river‑borne debris. The initiative is coordinated by Finike Municipality, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and the Sea Life Protection Association.
