Antalya family donates organs of teenage son to save seven people

In Antalya, the family of 15-year-old Ömer Mert Sökmen has turned their grief into hope through organ donation. Following a serious traffic accident on April 5, the teenager passed away on April 24.

After being declared brain dead at Antalya City Hospital, the Sökmen family made the decision to donate his organs. The donation provided life-saving opportunities for seven different people. His heart, kidneys, and corneas were transplanted, and his liver was divided and donated to two separate patients.

Antalya City Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nedim Ongun met with the family to present a plaque of appreciation for their exemplary behavior. Suna Sökmen, the mother, expressed that while she is heartbroken over the loss of her son, she finds solace in knowing his organs are providing life to others.
