Invasive fish species migrating from the Red Sea are seeing a population increase in the Antalya Gulf, according to Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gökoğlu of Mediterranean University. Researchers observing the area through diving have noted that these species are increasingly occupying rocky areas, particularly near the Konyaaltı coast.

Experts attribute this migration to the climate crisis and rising sea temperatures. The presence of these invasive species, which include red-striped fish, is causing native fish populations to vacate their habitats due to competition for food and space.

While these species are not currently being utilized for economic purposes, Prof. Gökoğlu noted that they are edible and safe for human consumption. The fish, which include cave, shadow, or triangle fish, typically reach a maximum size of about one span.
