Antalya history documentary uses AI to recreate ancient scenes

A documentary adaptation of the book 'Sarpedon’dan Keykubad’a Bir Zamanlar Antalya' has been released to showcase the ancient history and cultural heritage of Antalya. Written by archaeologist and academic Aytaç Dönmez in 2021, the book was originally designed to make historical narratives accessible to a wide audience, including those in rural village coffeehouses.

Directed and written by Serpil Devrim, the documentary utilizes a blend of real footage and artificial intelligence-generated scenes to recreate the atmosphere, architecture, and daily life of past eras. This technological approach aims to help viewers visualize mythological narratives and historical figures.

The gala screening took place at the Koç University Suna & İnan Kıraç Mediterranean Civilizations Research Center (AKMED) as part of the 11th International Kaleiçi Old Town Festival. Muratpaşa Municipality officials stated that the project seeks to preserve the city's cultural memory and reach diverse audiences through digital and visual storytelling.
