Antalya launches modernization plan for 200,000 decares of greenhouses

Authorities in Antalya, Turkey’s leader in protected cultivation, have launched a major initiative to modernize the region's aging greenhouse infrastructure. With over 315,000 decares currently under greenhouse production, the average age of these structures has exceeded 27 years.

The Antalya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry is conducting individual inspections to classify greenhouses into three categories: “modern,” those requiring “small revisions,” and those that must be “demolished and rebuilt.” The goal is to modernize approximately 200,000 decares of greenhouses that require complete replacement within a six-year period.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin stated that the project aims to implement disaster-resilient and sustainable production methods through technology, including the potential use of artificial intelligence for irrigation, pest control, and fertilization. To support this transition, the government is planning various subsidy and support packages for farmers.
