Antalya launches Three Islands Project to restore marine life
The Antalya Governor's Office, the Blue Mediterranean Initiative, and the Marine Life Protection Association have introduced the Three Islands Project. This initiative aims to protect the marine ecosystem and ensure the sustainability of biological diversity in the Antalya region.
During a recent field visit and press meeting, officials discussed protection measures against fishing and anchoring, scientific monitoring, and ecosystem restoration. Expert divers have already begun planting underwater seagrass and conducting underwater imaging in the Three Islands area. The project includes a three-year roadmap for protection and restoration.
Governor Hulusi Şahin stated that the goal is to restore damaged underwater life, drawing on successful artificial reef and nature restoration models used in Istanbul's Tavşan Island. The project is also part of broader preparations for Antalya hosting the COP31 climate conference, which includes the development of an Antalya Pavilion inspired by the caretta caretta sea turtle.
