Antalya market bust: suspect caught with fake dollars, euros and gold

Police in Antalya’s Serik district arrested a 25‑year‑old suspect, identified as O. S., after he attempted to purchase goods in the Belek neighbourhood market using counterfeit foreign currency and gold. Market vendors noticed the large amount of cash and, after a vendor, Hüsnü Dariga, felt the money was unusually hard, alerted municipal police and gendarmerie.

During the arrest, authorities seized fake currency estimated at 150 US $, 4,756 € and 65 g of 24‑carat gold. Additional items recovered included a genuine 100 US $ note, a 50 US $ note, a 200 € note, ninety 50‑€ coins, several smaller Euro coins and another 65 g of gold. Dariga said he “caught the person and handed him over to the police,” warning fellow traders to stay vigilant.

The suspect was taken into custody and handed over to police for further investigation.
