Antalya Metropolitan Municipality launches plastic waste project

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has launched the Konyaaltı Coast Plastic Partnership Project to prevent plastic waste from entering the sea. Developed in collaboration with the Earth Climate Change Fight Foundation and involving Konyaaltı Municipality, the initiative focuses on collecting, recording, and recycling plastic waste found along the coastline.

To combat marine pollution, the municipality is implementing several technical measures, including the installation of waste traps, the use of sea sweepers for surface cleaning, and the deployment of an Electronic Ship Inspection System. Additionally, programs are in place to remove ghost nets to protect the local ecosystem and maintain blue flag beach standards. The project also aims to increase environmental awareness through community education and data-driven monitoring of waste collection performance.
